Marjorie Rose Smith Newsome, 91, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wayne County on February 23, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Jasper and Eula Parks Smith.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie Rose was preceded in death by her sisters, Charlotte Johnson, Janelle McCullen, and Sarah Taylor; and brothers, Elwood Lee Smith and Russell Smith.

Marjorie Rose is survived by her husband of almost 73 years, Linwood Earl Newsome; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Donnie Egan of Eastover and Susan and Anthony Warren of Goldsboro; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Newsome of Seven Springs; sister, Barbara Grant; grandchildren, Daina Grantham (Rob), Brian Egan (Kiley), Jeremy Egan, John Kelly (Sarah), Ryan Kelly (Colleen), Brent Kelly, Katherine Kelly, Tyler Warren, Amanda Gazzara (Vinnie), Anna Rose (Van), and Aaron Newsome (Ashten); and great-grandchildren, Clara, Quinn, Kymber, Cash, Ronald, Ronin, Cora, Olin, Theodore, Asher, Logan, Jaxon, Ruby, Bentley, Case, Charlie, and Elliot.

A woman of unwavering faith, Marjorie Rose placed God at the center of her life. A devoted member of Woods Grove PFWB Church, she remained actively engaged in its ministry and fellowship for as long as her health permitted. Her church was not just a place of worship, but a second family to whom she offered her warmth, wisdom, and encouragement.

Marjorie Rose’s love for her family was deep and abiding. She was a nurturing and selfless matriarch, whose strength and compassion were the foundation of her home. Her culinary talents were a special gift—her meals brought loved ones together and created lasting memories around the table. Beyond the kitchen, Marjorie found joy in simple pleasures: traveling to the mountains, where she found peace and beauty, and curating her delightful collection of chicken décor, which filled her home with charm and character.

She retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital after many dedicated years as a switchboard operator, where her calm presence and kind voice greeted countless individuals in their times of need.

Marjorie Rose lived a life marked by grace, gratitude, and generosity. Though she will be deeply missed, her faith, love, and enduring spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Seymour Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a service to celebrate Marjorie Rose’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Teague officiating.
