Sue Taylor Gray, 85, entered into Heaven on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Her gentle spirit, giving heart, and unwavering devotion to others will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Sue was born in Edgecombe County of March 11, 1940 to the late Reuben I. Taylor Jr. and Dorothy Godwin Taylor.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Gray; brothers, RI Taylor and Wayne Taylor; and sons-in-law, Mark Finch and Dana Kidd.

Sue is survived by her children, Kimberli G. Lumley and husband, Darrell, Vicki Finch, Heidi Howard and husband, Tommy, Tiffani Kidd, and Smitty Gray, II and wife, Wendy; grandchildren, Darrell Lumley and wife, Taylor, Will Lumley and wife, Madason, Mark Finch and wife, Kristen, Tori Smith and husband, Will, Tyler Gilchrist, Taylor Kidd, Lauren Jones and husband, Alex, and Chandler Gray; five great-grandchildren; and bonus son, Mike Allsbrook and wife, Sharon.

Sue was the heart of her home—a dedicated homemaker who found great joy in creating a warm and welcoming space for all. Her yard was always beautifully maintained, a source of pride and joy, with the prettiest flowers blooming in every season. It reflected her love for beauty, order, and the peace she found in caring for her home.

She had a gift for sewing, especially in making baby blankets. Many little ones were wrapped in her love. Sue also had a true passion for entertaining and cooking. Whether it was a holiday celebration or a simple afternoon gathering, she took great delight in preparing delicious food and opening her doors to everyone.

Most of all, Sue loved her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she poured her heart into each of them. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was selflessly a mother and grandmother to many who needed one, and she welcomed them with the same love and open arms.

Sue’s life was a testament to love, grace, and selfless giving. She leaves behind a legacy stitched with kindness, rooted in faith, and blooming with the beauty she brought into the world. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A time of visitation and remembrance will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Hephzibah Baptist Church, 1794 Wendell Blvd. Wendell, NC 27591, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church.
