Efton Medford Sager, born on June 10, 1933, in Galena, Missouri, to the late Arthur and Edna Jones Sager, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Goldsboro, NC. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores Parsons Sager, and sister Imogene Harris.
He was a 1950 graduate of Pierce City High School. Efton proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career; he was actively involved in his community and held numerous positions, including membership in the American Legion Post 10, Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #634, Gideon’s International, Disabled American Veterans, Chairman of the Wayne County Red Cross 2008-2010, Past President of the Eastern Carolina Council of Government and serving as a Wayne County Commissioner from 2000 to 2008. He was also a dedicated member of the Brogden Church and serving as chairman of the pastor/parish relations committee, impacting many lives through his faith.
Efton represented District 11, the North Carolina House of Representatives, from 2009 to 2013 and was a board member for the Southern Wayne Sanitary District. He was a committed member of the Wayne County Republican Party.
He is survived by his children, David Arthur Sager and wife Catherine of Goldsboro, NC and Debra Ann Kornegay and husband David of Hillsborough, NC. and two grandchildren, Jacob David Kornegay and wife Megan of Raleigh, NC LeeAnn Sager Meyers and husband Josh of Pikeville, NC and two great grandchildren, Jaxon Meyers of Pikeville, NC, Charles David Kornegay of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Pate and Rev. Joseph Ballance officiating. Masonic honors will follow the service in the chapel. A committal service with full military honors will be held at 2:00 PM at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 11:00 – 11:45 at the funeral home. The family invites all who knew Efton to join them to celebrate his remarkable life.
