Douglas Scholer Davis, 78, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 at Vidant Medical Center after suffering a head injury from a fall. His family was by his bedside.
Doug was born in Greene County, NC on October 16, 1946 to Oscar J. Davis and Doris Scholer Davis. Doug was an honor graduate and a student leader at Greene Central High School. After graduation, he was appointed to and attended the U.S Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Doug returned to NC to continue his studies at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson and marry his high school sweetheart, Toni Ilene Reidenhour. They were blessed with two children, Mindy Louise followed by Andrew Douglas.
After receiving his degree in Social Studies education, Doug took a position as Social Studies teacher at Eastern Wayne High School. He coached junior varsity basketball and became a favorite teacher with his knowledge and engaging presentation.
Doug returned to school at East Carolina University to earn a degree in administration. He served as vice-principal in charge of discipline at Eastern Wayne. He treated all students fairly and firmly. His methods were successful and he was respected by students and teachers alike.
Doug was an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman. He was proficient in all methods of marksman ship, bow and arrow as well as firearms. He loved to plant and harvest crops and was at home on a tractor.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marietta D. Stewart and his beloved Toni.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Mindy D. Knox and husband Roger, of Morehead City, NC. and Andrew D. Davis and wife, Dana B. Davis, of Greensboro, NC.; two grandchildren, Emma G. Davis and Benton D. Davis.
He also leaves behind his wife, Rebecca L. Davis and his twin nephews, Seth and Justin Stewart of Asheville, NC.
Doug was a member of New Hope Church where he served at the fair booth, cooked at the chicken dinner, was a member of several committees and regularly read scripture with his resonant voice.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at New Hope Church in Goldsboro. Visitation will follow the service. A private burial will be held.
