Three Trojans Named to CSC Academic All-District Team for Excellence On and Off the Court

Mount Olive, N.C. — The University of Mount Olive men’s basketball program proudly placed three student-athletes on the prestigious College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, recognizing their exceptional achievements both in the classroom and on the court.

Redshirt sophomore Christopher Brown, junior Shane Peterson, and junior Shawn Wilson were each honored for their academic excellence and athletic contributions during the 2023–2024 basketball season.

The CSC Academic All-District award highlights student-athletes who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA while meeting rigorous participation requirements—either playing in 90 percent of their team’s games or starting in at least 66 percent. Each institution may nominate up to four athletes per sport.

In his first season with the Trojans, Brown made a strong impact as a key option off the bench. He averaged 7.8 points per game while shooting over 51 percent from the field and over 81 percent from the free-throw line. In addition to scoring in double digits nine times, he contributed 69 rebounds, 26 assists, and 21 steals across 30 games. Brown is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and holds a 3.66 GPA.

Peterson, a junior majoring in aviation and business management, averaged 9.4 points per game while leading the team in minutes played. He added 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Known for his scoring ability, Peterson recorded five 20-point performances throughout the season. He maintains an impressive 3.83 GPA.

Wilson, a Charlotte native majoring in sport communication, provided consistent contributions across all 30 games. Averaging 5.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game, he shot nearly 48 percent from the field and scored in double figures seven times, with a season-high 12 points against Francis Marion. Wilson currently holds a 3.86 GPA.

These honors reflect the University of Mount Olive’s ongoing commitment to academic and athletic excellence. The recognition also serves as a testament to the student-athletes’ dedication, discipline, and balance in pursuing success in both their educational and athletic endeavors.

Beginning in the 2023–2024 academic year, advancement from Academic All-District to the Academic All-America ballot will be determined by CSC subcommittees, further elevating the prestige of the honor.
