Mount Olive, N.C. (May 9) – Freshman sprinter Futoria Harris made history on Thursday, breaking the Conference Carolinas record in the 100-meter dash to headline a series of standout performances by the University of Mount Olive women’s track & field team at the UMO First Chance and Final Qualifier, held at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
Harris surged to a first-place finish in the 100 meters with a blazing time of 11.46 seconds, setting both a new school and conference record. The performance also vaults her into a tie for 14th in NCAA Division II rankings, underscoring her rising status on the national stage.
Senior Karla Hormazabal added to the Trojans’ dominant showing with a first-place leap of 12.55 meters in the triple jump, the seventh-best mark in Division II this season.
In the field events, Mount Olive continued to impress. Sophomore Elin Rydqvist met the NCAA provisional standard in the hammer throw with a second-place toss of 55.01 meters. Junior Kenisha Barnes followed closely behind, claiming third with a throw of 54.36 meters.
With multiple athletes posting NCAA-caliber performances, the Trojans look to carry their momentum into postseason competition.
