May 2, 2025, 66, Goldsboro —
May 2, 2025, Heaven gained an immeasurable husband, father, brother, and friend. James Dwight Lee Mitchell, 66, was born June 27, 1958 to the late Jimmy Lee Mitchell and Yvonne Holland Mitchell. Both preceded him in death and welcomed him to Heaven with open arms.
Dwight is survived by the love of his life, his wife, and best friend, Diane Strickland Mitchell; his only son, James Wade Mitchell (Amy) and daughter, Amanda Rose Mitchell. Dwight absolutely cherished his grandchildren and his sidekick, Jacob Harrison Mitchell of the home, Thomas James “TJ” Scott, Jamieson Earl Lee Mitchell; and his only granddaughter, Catalina Victoria Maria Mitchell.
Dwight had a big family to fill his huge heart. He is also survived by his two brothers, Jimmy Michael “Bull” Mitchell (Mary) and Ricky Alton Mitchell (Leigh-Ann) and his little sister, Sharon Kay Anderson (Randy).
Dwight spent many years working with his daddy as an auto body repairman and mechanic. He later went to work as a water well driller. Many times he served others by providing water to their family homes. He finished out his working career at Manheim Auto Auction as a mechanic.
Dwight had many passions and hobbies, but his greatest love was his wife and children. His oldest two grandchildren, Jacob and TJ held a love of fishing with many hours working on the boat.
His brothers and sister were his friends and playmates and he was proud of their accomplishments in life.
Dwight was a hardworking, devoted husband, and family protector. God gave this world a treasure and now was the time for his health to be healed and him to go fishing in Heaven.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Kenly Funeral Service. A private graveside service for the family will be held at the Simon Holland Cemetery in Fremont.
