Frank Bisignano Sworn In as 18th Commissioner of Social Security

Washington, D.C. — Frank Bisignano, a prominent figure in the financial services industry, was officially sworn in today as the 18th Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA). Bisignano takes the helm of one of the largest federal agencies following a successful tenure as Chairman and CEO of Fiserv, a leading global provider of payments and financial technology solutions.

A seasoned executive with decades of experience in finance and technology, Bisignano steps into a role critical to the financial well-being of millions of Americans. As Commissioner, he will oversee the delivery of Social Security programs, which provided more than $1.5 trillion in benefits to over 72 million individuals last year.

“President Trump has been clear about Social Security. We will protect it,” said Commissioner Bisignano in his remarks following the swearing-in ceremony. “We will make the Social Security Administration a premier organization.”

The SSA is tasked with administering retirement, disability, and survivors benefits, as well as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), impacting one in five Americans. Bisignano’s leadership is expected to bring a private-sector lens to the agency’s ongoing modernization efforts.

His appointment marks a new chapter for the SSA at a time when issues like demographic shifts, economic pressures, and technology upgrades are central to the agency’s mission. Observers say Bisignano’s background in digital finance and operational efficiency may signal a renewed focus on innovation and customer service at the agency.
