Raleigh, N.C. – (April 29, 2025) — The NC Values Coalition will host a press conference on Wednesday, April 30, at 9:30 a.m. at the North Carolina Legislative Building in Assembly Area #2, rallying support for two bills focused on women’s safety and the rights of individuals who have detransitioned after undergoing gender transition procedures.
The event will spotlight the Women’s Safety and Protection Act (SB 516/HB 791), legislation aimed at regulating access to private spaces such as restrooms and locker rooms based on biological sex. Supporters argue the bill is necessary to safeguard women and girls in single-sex facilities.
In addition, the coalition is backing House Bill 606, which would extend the statute of limitations for detransitioners to file medical malpractice claims. Advocates for the bill argue that individuals who underwent gender transition procedures and later detransitioned deserve more time to seek legal recourse as medical complications can emerge years after treatment.
Speakers will include representatives from the NC Values Coalition, parents, students, and detransitioners who will share personal testimonies. The event will highlight concerns over safety, privacy, and medical accountability related to gender transition practices.
