March 19, 2025, 93, Goldsboro —
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Loper, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on March 19, 2025, at UNC Wayne, Goldsboro at the age of 93.
Born on February 6, 1932, in Astatula, Florida, Donald was the beloved son of Burton and Lena Loper. His life was marked by dedication, love, and unwavering loyalty to his family and country. After serving for 22 years in the United States Air Force, where he retired as a TSGT, Donald exemplified the values of duty and service.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy Loper, and his beloved daughter, Debra Loper. Donald was also preceded in death by his brothers: Howell, Acie, Fred, Clarence, Coley, and Archie Loper, as well as his sisters, Sarah Atz and Nellie Lamoureux. Despite these profound losses, Donald’s spirit endured, manifested through his love for those who remained.
Donald is survived by his two daughters, Donna Keim (and her husband Arlan) and Deeann Loper, who carry on his legacy of love. He was a proud grandfather to James Lunzmann (and wife Sallie) and Nikki Mathe (and husband Joseph), and his heart swelled with joy at the sight of his great-grandchildren: Will Peters, Layden, Kalyn, and Minden Mathe, along with Mary Helen and Caroline Grace Lunzmann. His sister, Clara Mae Lee, along with several nieces, nephews, and countless friends, hold dear the memories of his kindness and wisdom.
A true nurturer at heart, Donald loved his family with all of his being. He played a vital role in the upbringing of his grandchildren, imparting lessons of strength and compassion that will resonate within them forever. His love for the outdoors was evident in his beautifully manicured yard; he took great pride in tending to his plants, much like the care he showed his family.
Though Donald has departed from our sight, his spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of those he touched. The memories we shared, the lessons he taught, and the laughter we enjoyed will serve as a comforting reminder of a life well-lived. His funeral service will be private, reflecting his humble nature and desire for simplicity.
As we say goodbye to Donald Loper, let us celebrate a remarkable life marked by love, service, and an enduring legacy that will carry on through the generations. Rest in peace, dear Donald; you will be missed but never forgotten.
