Ruby King Lewis, 70, lovingly known as Shorty, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at UNC Health Wayne in Goldsboro surrounded by her family.

A member of New Hope Church since 1980, Shorty lived a life of faith and service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Shorty was born in Lenoir County to the late Robert Odell King and Eunice King Duski on January 22, 1955. Shorty was a valued employee of JC Penney in Goldsboro for 30 years, until her retirement in 2017. She loved to decorate, ensuring her home was always festive for every occasion. Loving the outdoors, she would spend countless hours potting plants, gardening, and ensuring her birds always had plenty of food. Shorty spent many weekends and summer vacations with her Lake Gaston family, boating, fishing, and making lifelong friendships. Every year, Shorty looked forward to an annual Caribbean Cruise and began planning for her next adventure before returning to port.

Shorty is survived by her husband of 44 years, Roger Lewis, daughter Cindy Price (Josh), step-daughter Chanda Madar (Tom), and step-son Jason Lewis (Holly); all of Goldsboro. In addition, grandchildren Henry Price, Ben Price, James Price, and step-grandchildren Hunter Jones, Nick Lewis, and Zoe Lewis. She is also survived by her siblings Robert King (Faye) of Kinston, Rachel Mills (Nicky) of Chocowinity, and Debbie King of Pink Hill, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shorty was preceded in death by her son Jody Raynor.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 3, 2025 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at New Hope Church, 200 E New Hope Road, followed by a service to celebrate Shorty’s life at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Steve Wellman officiating.
