Barbara Ann Gurley Browder, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025 at UNC Health Rex, surrounded by her family. Ann was born in Wayne County on September 23, 1942 to the late Leamon and Lillian Gurley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Ruben Browder; sister, Marnell Johnson; and brothers, Franklin Gurley and Gerald Gene Gurley.
Ann was a valuable employee of Belk in Goldsboro and retired after 16 years of service.
Dedicated to service to the Lord, Ann was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Faithful in worship every Sunday, you would find Ann seated right alongside her church family, offering praises and thanksgiving.
Tirelessly devoted to her family, Ann found her greatest blessings while caring for them. Always happiest when she was doing for others, she dedicated her time and energy to showing her love in tangible ways. Spending time with them was always valuable.
A service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary of Woods Grove P.F.W.B. Church with Rev. Barry Teague officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service in the fellowship hall on Sunday from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. and other times at her home. Interment will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in La Grange.
Ann is survived by her sons, Donnie Browder and wife, Nell of Morehead City and Todd Browder and wife, Deborah of Greenville; daughter, Dawn Edmundson and husband, Lee of Stantonsburg; grandchildren, Rachel Anderson and husband, Michael, Whitley Browder, Kendyl Majette and husband, Lawrence, Austin Edmundson and wife, Erika, Sydney Edmundson and fiancée, Christian Dawson, Keaton Browder and Hayden Edmundson; great-grandchildren, Ava, Kensington, Bennett, and Barrett; and many other family and friends that she loved very much.
