January 17, 2025, 41, Goldsboro —
It is with heavy hearts that we announce John Gregory “Greg” Metz, 41, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away on January 17, 2025. He was the beloved son of John and Sherie Metz of Goldsboro and the cherished brother of Taylor Metz (Jamie) of Goldsboro and Jessica Metz of Wilmington, North Carolina. Greg was a devoted uncle to his niece and nephew, Bailey and Easton, who were the light of his life.
Greg had a lifelong passion for sports, especially Duke basketball and the Atlanta Braves, possessing an impressive knowledge of sports statistics and trivia. He also loved spending time on the water, fishing with family. His greatest joy was being an uncle, making a strong effort to attend every one of Easton’s practices and ball games, and all of Bailey’s dance events and volleyball games.
Greg was an exceptionally hard worker. He spent many years working alongside his father and brother at Helena Chemical. When not at Helena, he worked with Ronnie Bogue Farms. He took great pride in his work and formed lasting friendships with those he worked alongside, all of who were very special to him.
Those who knew Greg will remember his intelligence, quick wit, and humor that brought joy and many laughs to family and friends. He had a kind and sensitive soul, showing deep compassion and empathy for everyone. Greg was defined by his incredible character. He was selfless, always giving and doing for others. He never said “no”, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Greg leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, NC, in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to Duke Children’s Hospital.
