Peggy Carter Patterson

December 8, 2024, 84, Seven Springs —

March 27, 1940 – December 8, 2024

Peggy Carter Patterson, 84, was welcomed into life eternal on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Peggy was born in Duplin County to the late William Calvin and Gladys Inez Herring Carter on March 27, 1940. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John William Carter; a nephew, Little John Carter, and Renee Pate.

Starting her career with Carolina Telephone, Peggy maintained a long and successful career with Southern Bell Telephone Company in various locations and through many changes. Following her retirement, she displayed her true servant’s heart in the way she cared for her parents and her in-laws in their declining health. She dedicated much time and attention to their health and well-being, showing her great love for them.

An excellent cook, Peggy shared her talents with friends and family alike. She loved to cook and her family loved for her to cook. Serving as the chair of the benevolence committee at church, she oversaw many meals prepared in the kitchen at Daly’s Chapel, ministering to families during their most difficult times. Equally good at baking as cooking, anything that came from Peggy’s kitchen was divine.

A lifelong member of Daly’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Peggy also served her Lord faithfully by serving as a Sunday School teacher and singing in the church choir. She was a loving and generous person who longed to serve and care for others. Outside of church, she also served as a volunteer at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

Always happy and ever-loving, Peggy was completely inseparable from her husband. The two enjoyed traveling to work together and were blessed to spend time together both at work and at home. Just as Peggy loved, she was loved, and everyone who knew her adored her. The ever-gracious hostess, it was an honor to be a guest at her home.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Butch Haddock officiating. Committal will follow at Daly’s Chapel Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Samuel Thomas Patterson; children, Don Pate (Sabrina), Tom Patterson (Laurie), Melanie Patterson (Jeff), and Mona Stewart (Sean); grandchildren, Brent Pate, Lauren Shoemaker (Jeff), Kaitlyn Pfuhl (Christian), Ryan Stewart (Cameron), Kerri Stewart, and Kasey Sawhney (Vinamra); great-grandchildren, Beckett, Henry, Logan, and Pippa; special family friends, Barbara Shepard and Deborah Duff; and a host of cousins and extended family.
