Shirley Ann Combs Head, 87, passed away on August 9, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro with her family by her side. Born in Wayne County on January 22, 1937, she was the daughter of the late O’Neal and Lonie Radford Combs.
First and foremost, she loved and served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Family was paramount and of utmost importance to her. She made sure each and everyone knew how much she loved and cherished them. Shirley was a member of the Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church of Goldsboro.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Johnny Head and wife, Pam and Jerry Head and wife, Debbie; daughter-in-law, Patricia Head of Aiken, SC; sisters-in-law, Frances Combs, Lily Rose Combs, and Betty Lou Combs; grandchildren, Jeffrey Head and wife, Dana, Jennifer Hines and husband, Brogden, Monica Troquille, Christina Penny and husband, Brian, Melissa Johnson and husband, Jay, Chad Head, Joseph Barley and wife, Jennifer, and Susie Barley; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her faithful fur companion, Prissy.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Head; daughter, Deborah Barley; son, Bobby Head; and brothers, Billy Ray Combs and William “Bud” Combs.
A time of visitation and remembrance will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church. A homegoing celebration service to honor Shirley’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Berry House officiating. Interment will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their wonderful service and to Judy Carmack, her caretaker, for her compassion and love shown to Mrs. Shirley.
