Franklin Rudolph Hooks, Jr., age 76, passed away Tuesday, July 23rd at Wayne UNC Healthcare. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Franklin R. Hooks, Sr., and the late Judith Marie Yelverton Hooks Scott. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Blair and her husband, Gary Blair, and cousin Mike Ellis. Rudy attended Fremont United Methodist Church and Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy and was a member of the N.C. Cattleman’s Association.
A small service to celebrate Rudy’s life will be held on Sunday, July 28th at 3:00 pm in the mausoleum chapel at Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and her large extended family; his nephew, Robert Dred Blair, and his wife, Amy; his niece, Carrie Gallo, and husband, Tom; special cousins, Col. Joe Marm and his wife, Deborah, Ken Ellis, Bookie Ellis and Phyllis Edmundson and Caroline Ellis, the wife of Mike Ellis.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Karen Jones, and Peggy Kornegay; the staff at 3HC including Casey, Winnie, and Erica; along with the staff at Wayne UNC Healthcare and Dr. James Stackhouse and the Open Water Medical Office.
