Julia Mae Holmes Jackson

July 1, 2024, 82, Goldsboro —

Julia Mae Holmes Jackson, 82, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 1, 2024, while being cared for at Goldsboro Assisted Living where she has resided since December of 2023. She was also known by her family and dear friends as Dinky, Mama Bird, and Julie Bug.

Julia was the daughter of the late Christine Holmes Murphy and Robert James Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Jackson. More recently, she lost her cat, Tommen, of many years whom she loved very much as he did her and was with her all of the time.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Hines; son, William Earl Jackson, wife, Marion; and one grandchild, Kristen Nicole Hines, all of Goldsboro. Julia is also survived by her two cousins, Marty Ann Pate and Jimmie R. Holmes.

Julia and her husband ran a grocery store in Mount Olive called Hoody Jackson’s Grocery in the Scott’s Store Community many years ago. After her husband’s passing, she pursued a career in nursing and spent a few years in Panama City, Florida where she was a CNA and worked at Gulf Coast Hospital taking care of patients until she got a homebound patient whom she loved and took care of for some time. Julia returned to North Carolina, where she committed to taking care of her own mother until her passing.

Julia enjoyed gardening and had a nice garden where she loved to grow her own vegetables and fruit. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, baking, clogging and square dancing, taking long walks, listening to good music, fishing at the beach, and eating good food.

Julia attended Harvest Baptist Church occasionally until she was unable to.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Julia’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Gentiva Hospice of Goldsboro. Love and heartfelt thanks is also expressed to the wonderful staff of Goldsboro Assisted Living, who were not only her caregivers but friends to their Julie Bug.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her memory to Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 5171 Glenwood Ave Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
