On 09/04/2022, at approximately 2:52 a.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department heard several shots fired somewhere near N. Center Street. Officers responded and located a vehicle near the intersection of N. Center St. and Raynor St. They found that the driver, Daniel Atkinson, was suffering from a single gunshot wound to his head.

Mr. Atkinson was transported to UNC Health Wayne for treatment. He was subsequently transported the ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment. The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau, to include members of the Investigations Unit and Crime Scene Unit, responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

That investigation is still developing. Mr. Atkinson remains in critical condition.
