Storm Departs, Leaves Roads Treacherous

(GDN) — It may be pretty, but it’s also a mess out there this morning if you have to travel.

The winter storm dumped approximately three inches of snow across Wayne County overnight.

The National Weather Service warns the lingering snowfall on area roadways, along with ice patches, will leave roads slippery this morning.

The rising temps and clearing skies should help melt some of that snow this afternoon, and drivers are urged to delay travel until later in the day if possible.

Black ice will likely be a hazard for tonight into Sunday morning.

If you must travel, slow down and use caution.

Visit DriveNC.gov for the latest road conditions.

According to Duke Energy, the main power outages locally due to the storm are in the Walnut Creek area where nearly 200 customers are without electricity as of 9 AM.

Remember to report any power outages to your electric provider, and only call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.
