Betty Jane Stocks Stroud

Betty Jane Stocks Stroud

November 8, 2021, 78, La Grange –

Betty Jane Stocks Stroud peacefully passed away on November 8, 2021, at her home. She was born in Lenoir County to the late Horace Allen Stocks and Penny Louise Summerall Stocks on June 23, 1943. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert and Anne, and a special niece, Debbie.

Betty’s life was spent as a servant to others. Through her work as a social worker and volunteer at the Salvation Army, Betty touched the lives of many families and individuals. Her primary ministry was sharing her cross-stitched crosses with friends, family, and strangers. Betty’s mission was to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone she met.

No matter what Betty was endeavoring to do, she never did anything halfway. Her collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia was as varied as it was vast, though she actually drank Pepsi. Her temporary obsessions with Kit-Kats, 3 Muskateers, and other flavored candies would last until she ran out or became burned out on the flavor. She once gave her son-in-law a 25-pound box of Peanut M&M’s; after all, why only share a bag of them?

Some of Betty’s favorite hobbies included shopping at yard sales and flea markets, but nothing compared to her trips to Hobby Lobby. Quiet times spent at home usually involved a good puzzle on her iPad, but if you heard her tapping the screen loudly, you knew not to disturb her.

Betty loved to cook. Her husband and children boasted that her butter beans and collards were unmatched, and her table often hosted family and friends for a home-cooked meal. Her husband, Chris, enjoyed the times shared around the table with a good plate of food before him and the love of his life beside him. Betty’s love for family was only outweighed by her love of Christ.

Betty’s family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 12:00-12:45 p.m., with words of remembrance shared at 12:45 p.m.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, Chris Hardison Stroud, Betty is survived by her children, Chris Stroud, Jr. and wife, Vivian, and Mary Stroud Mumford and husband, Greg; grandchildren, Bradly Mumford and wife, Ashley, and Bobie Lynn Smith; four great-grandchildren, Harley, Edward, Grayson, and Parker; siblings, Mae, Kay, Ellis, and Henry; and her beloved fur-baby, Sissy Lynn.
