Library Hosts Event For El Día De Los Niños/El Día De Los Libros

Wayne County Public Library has received a Grassroots Art Program grant through the Arts Council of Wayne County to host an event for El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros on Saturday, May 1from 2-4pm at the Maxwell Center.

This event, part of a nationally recognized initiative commonly known as Día, is a celebration of children, families, and reading, and emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Anna Snyder, Head of Children’s Services, says, “This event will allow families in our community to come together in a safe, socially distanced way, to celebrate our shared love of reading and learning. Attendees will experience different cultures through dance, storytelling, crafts, and movement activities.  There is a lot of diversity in Wayne County, and this gives us a chance to learn about different traditions in our community while having a great time!”

Working with the Wayne County Latino Council and other community partners, the Library has chosen several performers for the event and planned multiple activities for children. Día will also feature a virtual performance by Criss Cross Mangosauce, a group of educational artists who promote bilingual music, storytelling, and literacy programs across the country.

For more information about the Library’s Día event contact Anna Snyder Head of the Children’s Department at (919) 735 –1824 ext. 5014.

This project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, as well as the Wayne County Public Library Foundation.
