DUDLEY, N.C. — A Dudley man is being held without bond following an investigation into an early-morning burglary that left one person injured, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a reported burglary on Jenny Lane in the Dudley community during the early morning hours of September 26.
When deputies arrived, they found a victim who had reportedly been assaulted and was in need of medical attention. The victim was transported to Wayne UNC Health Care for treatment of a laceration sustained during the incident.
Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and began an investigation.
During the investigation, authorities identified Gamaliel Morales Diaz, also known as Gamaliel Diaz Morales, 28, of Legion Lake Drive in Dudley, as a suspect.
Diaz was later taken into custody at his residence and charged with First-Degree Burglary and Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury.
Diaz remains in the Wayne County Detention Center without bond.
The charges are allegations, and Diaz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
