County Ready To Talk About Proposed School At Seymour Johnson AFB

Wayne County is ready to move forward with a potential school on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Tuesday, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners approved the county’s portion of an agreement for facilities use on the Goldsboro Air Force base.

County Manager Craig Honeycutt say, at this time, the agreement only allows the county, school system and base to get together and see if the new school is feasible.

The Wayne County Board of Education already approved the school district’s part of the agreement.

Program options being explored for the new school include the Wayne School of Technical Arts or the North Carolina Virtual Public School Academy, a WCPS high school.

Both proposed programs being explored would utilize an existing building on Seymour Johnson, which currently houses classrooms and other available learning spaces.

If brought to fruition, the school would be expected to open in Fall 2022.
