The Wayne County Museum debuts its newest exhibit today, Saturday, November 7.
“The Immigrant Experience in Wayne County” opens to the public at 10 AM and an opening night reception is scheduled from 5 – 6:30 PM tonight.
Jennifer Kuykendall, the Executive Director of the Wayne County Museum, talked about the importance of the new exhibit with Jeff Farrow on Goldsboro’s Greatest Hits 1150 and 98.3.
Kuykendall says in the early days, North Carolina was actively recruiting immigrants to come to the state due to its low population.
She says they wanted to explore their motivation for leaving their home countries, their personal struggles in assimilating to local culture, and their success stories with the hope that a better understanding of others will help to strengthen our community relations.
“The Immigrant Experience in Wayne County” exhibit is free and runs through February 6th.
The Wayne County Museum is located at 116 N. William Street across from the Post Office. The hours are Tuesday-Friday 11 AM to 4 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 6 PM.
