June 29, 2026, 99, Goldsboro – Allie James Melton, Jr., 99, peacefully entered his Heavenly home on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born in Johnston County on April 3, 1927, Allie was the son of the late Allie James Melton, Sr. and Zora Ruth Welch Melton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life and devoted wife, Edna Earl Holloman Melton, and his sister, Agnes Ruth Cobb.
A proud member of the Greatest Generation, Allie honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Civil Service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base before retiring.
Faith was the cornerstone of Allie’s life. As a charter member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, he faithfully supported the church from its beginning and cherished the friendships and fellowship he found there throughout the years.
Allie possessed a sharp mind and an insatiable curiosity. A student of history, he loved learning about the past and sharing his knowledge with anyone willing to listen. His thoughtful conversations and unique perspective left a lasting impression on family and friends alike. While he enjoyed discussing history, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved. Whether gathered around the table or simply enjoying one another’s company, his family treasured every moment with him.
Since he was a young boy, Allie had a passion for aviation that remained with him throughout his life. At just 16 years old, he earned his pilot’s license, an accomplishment that reflected both his determination and adventurous spirit. His love of flying continued for many years, and he later fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning and operating his own airplane. Whether in the air or on the ground, flying brought him great joy and a sense of freedom that never left him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, followed by a service to celebrate Allie’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Brad Parker officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
Allie leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his sons, Miles Daries Melton and wife, Sandra, and James Brent Melton and wife, Lisa; his grandsons, Chad Melton and wife, Lindsay, and Tanner Melton and wife, Mary Catherine; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Everett, Grant, Braelyn, Leah, and Emery. His legacy of faith, service, wisdom, and love will continue through each of them.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Allie during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Madison Avenue Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 300 S. Madison Avenue, Goldsboro, NC 27530, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
