June 30, 2026, 69, Kenly – Bette Ann Johnston Raper, 69, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Born on November 11, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Frank William Johnston and Betty Helmick Johnston.
In addition to her parents, Bette was preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Raper.
Bette is survived by her sons, Joseph Johnston and Scott Johnston; grandchildren, Grant Johnston, Garrett Johnston, Kaylee Williams (William), Kamryn Johnston; and siblings, Susan Hamilton, Ellen Flynn, and Frank Johnston, Jr. Bette is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose love for her family was evident in everything she did. She cherished every moment spent with those she loved and found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her family.
For 26 years, Bette was a dedicated employee at Walmart, where she was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and friendly spirit. She took pride in her work and formed many lasting friendships throughout her years of service.
In her free time, Bette found happiness in the simple things in life, especially watching hummingbirds visit her yard. Their beauty and grace brought her peace and were a source of daily enjoyment.
Bette will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle nature, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind treasured memories that will forever be held close by all who knew and loved her.
A time of visitation and remembrance will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service.
