June 27, 2026, 96, Kenly – Agnes Bedford Taylor Sullivan passed from her earthly life to her heavenly reward on June 27, 2026. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, William and Betty Smith Bedford, her brother Guy Bedford and his wife Evangeline “Pete”, and her brother Charlie Bedford. She was also preceded in death by her husband Elmer Taylor and her husband Herbert Sullivan.
Agnes spent her life loving and caring for others. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, and wife. Her joy in life came from taking care of her family and serving her Lord and Savior. Her mother was not well and Agnes assumed many household responsibilities at a early age. She began cooking when she had to stand in a chair to reach the stove. She became a great cook who enjoyed sharing her love with family and friends with gifts from her kitchen. As a dedicated Christian woman and member of Piney Grove OFWB Church, she was a Woman’s Auxiliary member, helped with Bible School, and many other Church activities. As long as she was able, if the lights were on at church, Agnes was there. Agnes worked with her brother Guy at Family Shoe Store in Goldsboro for over 54 years, retiring at the age of 84. She had many customers who purchased shoes from her year after year and became her friends. After retiring, she enjoyed trips to Craigmont for week-long woman’s retreats and visiting sick and shut-in friends until her health began to decline.
Agnes was most proud of her sons who she loved with all of her heart and who returned that love to her with much devotion. Her oldest son, Allen, traveled the United States with his business but never failed to keep in touch with his Mother and make her feel special. Brent was her rock and caregiver who always made sure she was well loved and cared for.
Agnes is survived by her son Allen Bedford and his wife Eucelan of Bushnell, Florida; her son Brent Taylor of Kenly; step-son Steve Taylor of Delaware; grandchildren Megan, Gracie and Justin of Idaho, and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Bedford of Atlanta; nephew Phil Bedford and wife Janice of Goldsboro; and many friends.
A service to celebrate Agnes’ life will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 6 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service with Reverend Lewis Forsythe and Reverend Richard Cuddington, Jr. presiding. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the chapel. Interment services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Kenly Cemetery at 11 a.m.
