June 28, 2026, 70, Mount Olive – After a lingering period of illness, Loretta Vinson passed away Sunday morning, June 28, 2026, while receiving comfort and care at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Loretta was 70.
Loretta Ann Baker Vinson was born August 29, 1955. She graduated from Southern Wayne Senior High School. In her earlier years, Loretta had been employed by the First United Methodist Church in Mount Olive, assisting the Peanut Crew with their peanut sales and recordkeeping. She had also worked at Southern Bank and Trust Company, and assisted her husband, Pete, with the bookkeeping duties with his garage. After a tenure of being a homemaker and tending to her children, she returned to the workforce, working at Carver Elementary School as a teaching assistant, where she was loved by students and staff alike.
Loretta leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Ronnae Vinson, of Mount Olive; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda Vinson Kirby and Travis Kirby, of Fremont; a grandson, Easton Vinson, along with his mother, Alicia Davis; a step-granddaughter, Hayden Deaver; a sister-in-law, Elda Baker, of Goldsboro; several cousins and their families; and her beloved dog, “Nikki.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Earl “Pete” Vinson, Jr.; her parents, Albert Leroy Baker and Alene Grady Baker; her brother, Colton Leroy “C.L.” Baker; Pete’s parents, David Earl Vinson and Nancy Kelly Vinson Brock; and Pete’s step-father, Henry Earl Brock.
Visitation with her family will take place Thursday, July 2, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held by the graveside Friday, July 3, at 10 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Officiating will be Mr. Michael Odom.
