June 13, 2026, 78, Goldsboro – Charles Douglas Sykes, age 78, passed away Saturday evening, June 13, 2026 at Rex Hospital. Born in Wilson County, he was the son of the late John William Sykes and Pauline Bass Sykes. Charles retired from the Tri-County Electric Corporation in 2010 as their Manager of Operations.
A service to celebrate the life of Charles will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 11:00 am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Charles is survived by his wife, Melba Sykes; his children, Richard (Joni) Lancaster and Angie (David) Lewis; his sisters, Kathy (Sandy) Lawhorn and Pat Singleton; and his grandchildren, Sara Hood, Marc Lewis, Zach Lancaster and Madi Albert; along with three great-grandchildren, Chandler, Callum and Weston.
