June 8, 2026, 78, Goldsboro – James Starr Judkins, age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be held at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro at a later date.
Mr. Judkins proudly served his country in the United Sates Navy, attaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. During his military service, he played a vital role in maintaining and operating critical shipboard technology including steering control systems, communications equipment, and safety alarm systems. His dedication, technical expertise and commitment to duty contributed significantly to the mission and readiness of the Navy vessels on which he serviced.
In later years, Jim found joy in a variety of creative pursuits. Before his health declined, he enjoyed photography, sewing, knitting and woodworking. His craftsmanship, attention to detail and artistic spirit were evident in all that he created and will be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Pamela L. Brunson-Judkins; his daughter, Jessica Starr Judkins and partner, Matt Doran of Pilot, Virginia; one stepdaughter Andrea Michelle Lassiter of Goldsboro; one stepson, Jonathan Sean Davis of Goldsboro; three sisters; Susan Gravely of Richmond Virginia; Nancy Esarey and husband, Richard of Louisville, Kentucky; and Anne Campbell and husband, Greg of Blacksburg, Virginia; brother-in-law, George Eugene “Gene” Brunson of Goldsboro; one grandson; three step-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Jim will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his family, and kindness and creativity he shared throughout his life. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1101 East Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
