Goldsboro, N.C. — The City of Goldsboro is warning developers about a scam targeting individuals who have previously submitted applications to the City’s Planning Department for public hearings.
City officials say scammers appear to be obtaining email addresses from applications included in public agenda packets and are sending fraudulent invoices that falsely claim to be from the Planning Department.
The City emphasized that the Planning Department only collects application fees at the time an application is submitted. All fees are published on the City of Goldsboro’s official website, and the department does not send invoices or request additional payments after an application has been filed.
Developers or applicants who receive an invoice claiming to be from the Planning Department are advised not to submit payment. Instead, they should immediately report the communication to the Planning Department so the City can track and address the issue.
City officials encourage anyone with questions or concerns about application fees to contact the Planning Department directly to verify legitimate requests.
