GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro will receive more than $2.6 million in federal funding to support an expansion that will provide additional burial space for veterans and their families.
Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded $2,613,394 through the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program to support the expansion of the Goldsboro facility.
“Such a historic investment in the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program will help to expand the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, allowing more veterans to be laid to rest closer to home,” said Davis.
The funding will help ensure that veterans across eastern North Carolina have access to a final resting place close to their communities and loved ones.
Davis, a former U.S. Air Force mortuary officer, emphasized the importance of honoring those who have served in the nation’s armed forces.
“Our veterans should be able to receive the final honor they so rightfully deserve. They stood for America. We owe them and their families the honor, respect, and dignity they have earned,” Davis added.
The Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery is one of 21 veterans cemeteries nationwide selected to receive federal cemetery grants during Fiscal Year 2026.
In addition to the expansion funding, the VA will reimburse the cost of pre-placed burial crypts and their delivery to the cemetery, up to $2,878.
The Veterans Cemetery Grants Program provides financial assistance to states, territories, and Native American tribes to establish, expand, improve, and maintain veterans cemeteries throughout the United States.
For Fiscal Year 2026, the VA awarded a record $106.5 million through the program, representing a significant investment in burial facilities and services for America’s veterans.
For Goldsboro and Wayne County, the grant represents an investment in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery’s ability to continue serving military families throughout the region.
The expansion will help the cemetery accommodate future burial needs while continuing its mission of providing veterans with a dignified final resting place.
