GOLDSBORO, N.C. — School spirit, talent, and creativity took center stage Wednesday, October 7, as students from across Wayne County and surrounding communities competed in the cheerleading and talent contests at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair.
From high-energy cheerleading routines to impressive vocal performances, instrumental solos, and dance competitions, young performers showcased their abilities while representing their schools during another exciting day at the fair.
Cheerleading Competition
North Lenoir High School captured first place in the varsity cheerleading competition, followed by Charles B. Aycock High School in second place and Eastern Wayne High School in third.
In the middle school division, E.B. Frink Middle School earned top honors, with Goldsboro School of Engineering finishing second and Contentnea-Savannah Middle School taking third.
Talent Contest Highlights
The fair’s talent competition featured students in kindergarten through fifth grade competing in several categories, including vocal solos, instrumental performances, dance routines, and novelty acts.
In the vocal solo competition, Hadley Gose of Wayne Country Day School earned first place in the kindergarten through second-grade division. Chrystian Atkins of Wayne Preparatory Academy claimed first place in the third-through-fifth-grade division.
Instrumental solo honors went to Mateo Arroyo-Chavez of Tommy’s Road Elementary in the younger division and Luoning Lian of Wayne Country Day School in the older division.
Dance solo winners included Scarlett Howard of Eastern Wayne Elementary for kindergarten through second grade and Skylar Diggs of Wayne Christian School for third through fifth grade.
In the novelty solo category, Dre’quan Deloatch of Tommy’s Road Elementary took first place in the younger division, while Tucker Bentley of Grantham Elementary earned top honors in the older division.
Group Performances Showcase Teamwork
Group competitions also provided an opportunity for students to combine their talents and creativity.
In the vocal group category for grades three through five, Emma Gore, Haylea Sieben, and Serenity Powell of Rosewood Elementary earned first place.
The kindergarten-through-second-grade group dance competition was won by Hailynn Floars and Laiken Floars of Wayne Christian School.
Wayne Preparatory Academy’s WPA Dance Company claimed first place in the third-through-fifth-grade group dance division. The winning performers included Justcye, Kamryn, Esther, Zariyah, Arliss, Mikel, Benjamin, and Chance.
In the group novelty category for grades three through five, Lilli Barwick, Conleigh Mitchell, and Nora Grand of Wayne Country Day School earned first place.
Large Vocal Groups Take the Spotlight
Two elementary schools received top honors in the large vocal group competitions.
Meadow Lane Elementary School captured first place in the kindergarten-through-second-grade division. Members of the winning group included Elaina Davenport, Cole Calder, Stella Harris, Mustafa Saleh, Allison Mullins, Anastasia Garcia, Marcos Toledo, Aleynah Giron-Leon, and Alba Delamora.
Spring Creek Elementary School earned first place in the third-through-fifth-grade division. The winning group featured Rocio Baluja Quinones, Ayleen Flores, Elizabeth Dewey, Sophia Dominguez-Robles, Maggie Santizo, Riley Cockrell, Malaya Mooring, Carlos Najera, Paige O’Malley, Maliah Quire, Aalivia Sutton, and Brihana Velasquez Perez.
There were no participants in the large dance group competition. Several other group categories also had no entries.
Celebrating Local Youth at the Fair
Wednesday’s competitions highlighted the dedication, creativity, and teamwork of students throughout the region, giving young performers an opportunity to showcase their talents before the community.
