GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The City of Goldsboro is making it easier for residents to access public records through a new online system designed to improve transparency, streamline requests, and reduce processing times.
The city has partnered with CivicPlus, a provider of technology solutions for local governments, to implement NextRequest, a modern public records management platform that allows residents to submit requests, track their progress, and access public information through a centralized online portal.
The new system is designed to simplify the public records request process for both residents and city employees by automating workflows, improving communication between departments, and helping ensure compliance with North Carolina’s public records laws.
City Manager Matt Livingston said the investment reflects Goldsboro’s commitment to improving customer service and making government information more accessible.
“The City of Goldsboro frequently evaluates new technologies to better serve our residents, customers and partners. The decision to invest in NextRequest reflects our values of quality customer service and greater transparency,” Livingston said.
“The new software program helps us tremendously in meeting citizen demands for information through automation and the use of artificial intelligence. Putting this technology in the hands of our residents was an easy decision and one we strongly believe will reduce our staff time while providing easier access to all types of public records.”
Through NextRequest, residents will be able to submit public records requests electronically and monitor their status without having to repeatedly contact city departments for updates.
The platform will also help city employees manage requests more efficiently by automatically routing inquiries to the appropriate departments, improving collaboration, and reducing administrative tasks.
City officials say the technology will be particularly beneficial during periods of high demand, allowing staff to respond to requests more efficiently while maintaining accurate and complete records.
Eric Grant, Vice President of Product at CivicPlus, said the partnership represents an important step toward strengthening communication between local government and the community.
“CivicPlus is committed to empowering government agencies with tools that enhance transparency, streamline workflows, and foster greater trust within their communities,” Grant said.
“By adopting NextRequest, the City of Goldsboro is taking an exciting step toward supporting timely, compliant, and efficient management of public records requests. This partnership reflects our shared dedication to operational excellence and community engagement.”
The new platform is expected to provide a more convenient and user-friendly experience for residents seeking city documents and other public information.
By bringing public records requests into one centralized system, Goldsboro officials hope to reduce staff processing time, improve response efficiency, and make city government more accessible to the community.
