September 14, 2026, 75, – John H. Hemphill, 75, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026. Born on October 9, 1950, he was the son of the late Victor S. Hemphill and Barbara A. Swift.
John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Young C. Hemphill; daughters, Kathy Jones (Kacy) and Christine Hemphill (Derrick Moore); grandchildren, Karly Jones and Kolten Jones; and brother, Steve Hemphill (Pam).
John will be remembered as a remarkable man whose life was defined by service, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years, including four distinguished years with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. His military career was a source of great pride, reflecting the discipline, commitment, and integrity that he carried with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, John continued to serve his community through his work and passion for technology. He was the proud owner and operator of HSD Computers in Goldsboro, where he dedicated 25 years to helping others with their computer and technology needs. His knowledge, dependability, and willingness to help made him a trusted friend and familiar face to many.
One of John’s favorite hobbies was ham radio. He enjoyed the technical side of the hobby, but even more, he appreciated the opportunity to connect with people and build friendships through the airwaves. It was a reflection of his naturally curious spirit and his genuine enjoyment of people.
Above all else, John was a family man. He was a devoted and faithful husband who cherished the life he shared with his wife. He was also a doting father who took great pride in his children and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. John will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
