GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Foundation of Wayne Community College will bring a variety of topics ranging from Waffle House culture and medieval history to World War II and the life of Dolley Madison to campus this October as part of its fall Arts and Humanities lecture series.
Four lectures are scheduled throughout the month, with each program beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Room 147 of WCC’s Pine Building, the college’s new lecture hall.
The fall series begins Monday, Oct. 5, with “The View from a Booth: Waffle House Vistas and the Art of Paying Attention,” presented by Micah Cash.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Brett Whalen will present “The End of the World as We Know It? A Medievalist’s Perspective on the Apocalypse.” The program is being offered in partnership with Carolina Public Humanities.
The series continues Monday, Oct. 19, with a Faculty Spotlight featuring Jeff Williams. Williams will present “Debunking the Myths of Midway,” examining the historic World War II Battle of Midway.
The October series concludes Monday, Oct. 26, when Dr. Elliot Engel presents “Ladies First: The Incredible Life of Dolley Madison.”
All four lectures are free and open to the public.
