GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Motorists in Goldsboro should prepare for a temporary bridge closure beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, as crews undertake repairs to the Harris Street bridge.
The bridge, located on Harris Street between South Andrews Avenue and South Madison Avenue, will be closed to all traffic for approximately three to four weeks while repairs are completed.
The work follows a recent inspection by the North Carolina Department of Transportation that identified four defects requiring immediate repair.
NCDOT performs bridge inspections for the City of Goldsboro every two years as part of federal and state bridge inspection programs.
On Aug. 17, the Goldsboro City Council approved a resolution awarding a $165,500 contract to S&C Construction, LLC for the project. The company will replace some of the bridge’s beams and perform work intended to extend the life of the structure.
The project will be funded through Powell Bill funds.
Drivers who normally travel through the area should allow additional travel time and follow the posted detour around the closure.
The bridge is expected to remain closed for three to four weeks, depending on the progress of the repairs.
