WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — Week 2 of the high school football season brought plenty of action across Wayne County, with weather concerns moving several games to Thursday while others remained under the Friday night lights.
Thursday night’s games were played in rainy conditions, with local teams experiencing mixed results.
Goldsboro faced a difficult night against Greene Central, as the Rams defeated the Cougars 69-0.
The Eastern Wayne Warriors picked up their second victory of the season with a strong defensive performance against the Charles B. Aycock Golden Falcons. Eastern Wayne shut out Aycock 14-0 in the Battle of the Blues.
Southern Wayne also bounced back in Week 2. After falling to James Kenan in its season opener, the Saints battled through the rain Thursday and defeated Union 26-14, improving to 1-1 on the season.
The action continued Friday night with a close matchup between Rosewood and North Duplin. The Eagles came up just short as North Duplin escaped with a 13-12 victory.
Princeton also picked up a hard-fought win Friday night, holding off East Duplin for a 14-12 final.
Week 3 Game of the Week: Goldsboro at Southern Wayne
The spotlight turns to another all-Wayne County showdown in Week 3 as the Southern Wayne Saints host the Goldsboro Cougars in the Pittman Agner Law High School Football Game of the Week.
