PIKEVILLE, N.C. — Pikeville residents now have a new way to receive emergency information, weather alerts, community updates and other important town notifications directly on their phones.
The Town of Pikeville has announced the launch of TextMyGov, a text messaging service designed to make communication between town officials and residents faster and more convenient.
Residents may receive an initial text message from 91896 on behalf of the town introducing the new service. Participation is optional, and residents can opt out at any time by replying STOP.
Those who do not receive the introductory message can enroll by texting the keyword “PIKEVILLE” to 91896. Users will then be asked to reply YES to confirm their participation.
Once enrolled, residents may receive text messages about community events, important town updates, emergencies, weather alerts and other information. The town said additional categories of alerts may also become available by texting specific group keywords to 91896.
The new service also gives residents a way to get answers to questions around the clock.
Residents can text one or two keywords related to their question to the town’s TextMyGov number at 984-305-2335. The system can provide information about town services, offices, community resources and other topics.
Town officials said residents are encouraged to try the service the next time they have a question about Pikeville.
The town said the adoption of TextMyGov is part of its ongoing effort to improve public communication through modern and convenient technology and provide residents with a more accessible way to stay informed.
