WAYNE COUNTY, NC – A large emergency response was dispatched Friday afternoon after a house caught fire in the 100 block of Maggie Road, off Indian Springs Road, near Mount Olive.
Firefighters from the Mount Olive, Dudley, Arrington, Indian Springs, and Oak Wolfe fire departments responded to the working structure fire, along with Wayne County EMS units and a Wayne County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Heavy smoke from the blaze could be seen from several miles away as emergency crews were making their way to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the home heavily involved with flames and thick smoke coming from the left side of the structure. Crews quickly began an aggressive attack to bring the fire under control while ensuring everyone had safely evacuated.
Officials said multiple people were inside or at the home when the fire began, but all occupants were able to escape safely before firefighters arrived.
Because of the extreme heat, Wayne County EMS established a firefighter rehabilitation and triage area at the scene to monitor emergency personnel as they battled the blaze.
Firefighters and other emergency responders remained on the scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots and gathering information as part of the investigation.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined.
