RALEIGH, NC – The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has unveiled a new interactive online tool that gives residents an easier way to track transportation projects happening across the state, including those in their own communities.
Called Projects Near Me, the new map allows users to search by street address, making it simple to see highway, bridge, bicycle and pedestrian, aviation, rail, ferry, public transportation, and other transportation projects nearby. Users can also search by project identification number in the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), county, or NCDOT Highway Division.
The interactive map includes several filters that allow users to narrow results by project type or view projects that are generating significant public interest, have opportunities for public engagement, or are planned for the future.
Clicking on a project pin provides additional details, including a local map, a description of the project, key milestones for projects funded in the current STIP, and contact information for project staff.
NCDOT officials say the tool is designed to improve transparency and help residents stay informed about transportation improvements taking place throughout North Carolina.
Because transportation projects change over time, the information displayed on the map will be updated as projects evolve.
The department notes that the Projects Near Me map does not provide real-time traffic or travel impact information. For current road conditions, delays, and traffic incidents, motorists should continue using DriveNC.gov.
The new tool is available now and is intended to make it easier for residents, businesses, and community leaders to stay informed about transportation investments in their neighborhoods and across the state.
