June 27, 2026, 61, Goldsboro – Matthew “Matt” Harrison McCoy, 61, formerly of the Rosewood Community of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Northside Hospital in Duluth, Georgia.
Matt was a beloved resident of Annandale Village in Suwanee, Georgia.
Matt loved Jesus with all his heart. His faith was simple, sincere, and unwavering, and it shaped the kindness he showed to everyone around him.
He found joy in the simple things of life – listening to Elvis, cheering for the Atlanta Braves and the University of North Carolina, watching old Westerns, dancing, riding horses, and sharing those passions with anyone who would join him.
To know Matt was to hear stories, songs, laughter, and excitement over the things he loved. His enthusiasm was contagious, and his happiness had a way of brightening the toughest of days. Children were drawn to him, adults admired him, and everyone who crossed his path was better for having known him.
Although Down syndrome was part of Matt’s life, it never defined him. What did define him was his compassion, innocence, loyalty, and extraordinary capacity for unconditional love.
Through his example, Matt reminded those around him of the value of patience, gratitude, joy, and living with a thankful heart. His legacy cannot be measured by titles or achievements, but by the thousands of smiles he inspired and the lives he quietly transformed.
Those who loved Matt can find comfort in knowing that the Jesus he trusted throughout his life has welcomed him home with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we rejoice that Heaven has gained one of its gentlest souls. Matt will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all whose lives he touched.
The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers, staff, and friends at Annandale Village, whose love, compassion, and dedication enriched Matt’s life for many years.
Matt is survived by his brother, Dr. Michael J. McCoy, and sister-in-law, Nancy R. McCoy, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; his nephew, Michael J. McCoy Jr., of Lawrenceville; and his guardian, Sidney R. Feagin, of Mableton, Georgia.
Matt was preceded by his mother, Lillie Harrison McCoy (2017) and his father, James Shirley McCoy (2021).
A brief service honoring Matt will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Hwy 70 West, Goldsboro, North Carolina, followed by a celebration of Matt’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Matt’s memory to Annandale Village (3500 Annandale Lane, Suwanee, GA 30024), whose residents and caregivers became an extended family to him.
