June 27, 2026, 81, Goldsboro – James Edwin Hardee, 81, passed away the morning of Saturday, June 27, 2026, with family.
James was born in Johnston County on June 26, 1945, to Wilbur Allen Hardee and Ada Mae Batten Hardee. He was one of six children and grew up with a deep love for his family, his roots, and the place he called home. He worked as a supervisor for the Department of Agriculture and was a retired volunteer fireman from Oakland Fire Department.
James was a kind man with a strong spirit and a mind of his own. Those who knew him loved him for his honesty, his smile, and the quiet ways he showed he cared. He loved his family deeply and often expressed that love through cooking for the people closest to him. To James, preparing a meal was more than just making food; it was a way to bring people together and make them feel cared for.
He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, riding around at Walmart, and taking comfort in the simple joys of everyday life. He carried great pride in his family, his life, and the memories made with those he loved. He will be remembered for his warmth, his steady presence, and the love he shared with those around him.
The family will see friends at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery on Monday, June 29, from 2:00–3:00 p.m., with a 3:00 p.m. graveside service immediately following at the same location. Officiating the service will be Pastor Dennis Pollock. Address- 3888 Hwy. 70 West, Princeton, NC
James is survived by his brother, W.A. Hardee; his two daughters, Michelle Sauls and Tammy Foster; and his sons-in-law, Mike Sauls and Mickey Foster. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Christopher Sauls, Ally Foster, Aleigha Sauls, as well as three great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his siblings- Lena Strickland, Willie Mae Hill, Billy Gene Hardee, and Ann Brown.
James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
