GOLDSBORO, NC – The City of Goldsboro is asking residents to help identify potential Brownfields properties that could be transformed into valuable community assets through future redevelopment efforts.
City officials are encouraging residents, property owners, business owners, and community stakeholders to participate in the Brownfields Program by submitting information about properties that may be suitable for environmental assessment or revitalization.
Brownfields are properties where redevelopment or reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of contamination from previous uses. These sites often include former gas stations, factories, dry cleaners, or old warehouses. Once assessed and, if necessary, cleaned up, Brownfields can be redeveloped into parks and green spaces, homes and apartments, new businesses, community gathering spaces, shops, restaurants, and other projects that benefit the community.
According to the City, public participation plays a vital role in identifying potential sites, understanding neighborhood concerns, and shaping future redevelopment priorities.
Officials say comments and property suggestions submitted by the public will help guide future assessment and redevelopment efforts designed to improve public health, encourage economic growth, and revitalize neighborhoods across Goldsboro.
Residents interested in learning more about the Brownfields Program can visit goldsborobrownfields.com for additional information.
The City has also launched an online Brownfield Redevelopment Survey where community members can recommend potential properties and share their feedback. The survey is available at https://forms.office.com/g/AjWTxBJkuM.
City leaders encourage anyone with knowledge of properties that may qualify for the program to participate and help shape the future of redevelopment in Goldsboro.
