May 30, 2026, 74, Benson – Kathy Barbee Nichols, 74, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born in Johnston County on July 7, 1951, she was daughter to the late James Albert Barbee and Audrey Lee Jane Pate Barbee Perry.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, David Nichols; her daughters, Ashley Willis and husband, Danny, and Mindy Watson; her granddaughters, Bridigette Sparrow and Sopia Watson; her sister, Virginia Barnes; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her siblings, Jean Langston, Betty Harrell, Shirley Harrell, Frances Finch, James Barbee, Jr., Johnny Barbee, and Jeffrey Barbee.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A graveside service to honor Kathy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Kenly Cemetery with Rev. Allen Gupton officiating.
The family is in the care of Kenly Funeral and Cremation Service.
