GOLDSBORO, NC — The Harris Street bridge in Goldsboro will be closed to truck traffic following a recent inspection that identified structural issues requiring immediate attention.
According to city officials, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) conducts bridge inspections every two years as part of the federal and state bridge inspection program. During the latest inspection of the Harris Street bridge, located between South Andrews Avenue and South Madison Avenue, inspectors discovered four defects that must be repaired.
While the bridge remains safe for passenger vehicles, officials have determined that truck traffic must be prohibited until repairs can be completed. Signs will be installed in the area to alert truck drivers and direct them to alternate routes.
The City of Goldsboro’s Engineering Department is currently working with Wetherill Engineering to develop a repair plan for the bridge.
Once construction begins, the bridge will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project. City officials estimate the repairs will take at least five months to complete.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to plan for future traffic impacts and monitor city communications for updates regarding construction schedules and detour routes.
City officials emphasized that the restrictions are being implemented to ensure public safety and to preserve the long-term integrity of the bridge.
