GOLDSBORO, NC – Students, staff and community members gathered Wednesday to give the 2026 Rosewood Eagles baseball team a spirited send-off as the team traveled to Burlington for the N.C. High School Athletic Association State Championship series against Cherryville.
Before departing, Rosewood head coach Jason King said the Eagles are expecting a tough challenge against a talented Cherryville squad.
“We’re going to expect a very good game,” King said. “They’ve got really good pitchers, they swing the bats well and play defense. You’re good if you make it at this point. It doesn’t matter who it is. We’re excited about the opportunity and excited about the challenge.”
King reflected on what has been a memorable season for the Eagles, praising his team’s resilience and chemistry throughout the year.
“It’s been outstanding. It’s been an exciting season,” King said. “The kids have played hard, worked hard for us and played together. We’ve enjoyed a lot of success. There’s been some down moments, and we’ve battled through injuries at times, but it’s all part of it.”
The Eagles opened the championship series at 5 p.m. Wednesday but fell to Cherryville 4-0 in Game 1. Rosewood will return to action Thursday at 11 a.m. as the Eagles look to extend the series and continue their pursuit of a state title.
