GOLDSBORO, NC – The Goldsboro Wayne NAACP is calling on the community to come together ahead of the summer months with a message focused on peace, prevention, and support for local youth.
The organization will host “Guns Down Summer” on Friday, June 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mina Weil Park. The event is scheduled for the last day of school and is intended to serve as a community-wide commitment to creating a safe and positive summer for children and families.
Organizers say the event comes at a time when communities often experience increases in violence and unsafe situations during the summer months. The goal is to provide a welcoming environment where youth, parents, churches, businesses, organizations, and community leaders can unite around safety and support.
The event will feature free food, music, speakers, vendors, youth engagement activities, voter education and voter registration opportunities, along with a variety of community resources.
Organizers are also encouraging local groups and agencies to connect families with services such as summer programs, mentoring opportunities, employment resources, mental health support, food assistance, housing information, and violence prevention programs.
Community organizations interested in sharing resources or information at the event can register for free vendor space through an online form.
The Goldsboro Wayne NAACP is encouraging residents to attend, invite young people, and share information about the event throughout the community.
Organizers say the event is about more than a single evening gathering — it is a public commitment to supporting children, families, and neighborhoods before violence occurs.
