WAYNE COUNTY, NC —
Wayne County Veterans & Patriots Coalition, Inc. will host a series of Memorial Day weekend ceremonies honoring the fallen men and women of the armed forces from Wayne County.
The weekend observances will begin Saturday, May 23, with a Flags In Ceremony hosted at American Legion Post 11, located at 2973 U.S. Highway 117 South in Dudley.
A light breakfast of biscuits, doughnuts, and coffee will be served beginning at 8 a.m. A memorial tribute ceremony honoring fallen veterans will follow at 9 a.m., along with the distribution of flags to volunteer team leaders.
Following the ceremony, teams will depart to place flags at several local cemeteries, including Wayne Memorial Park, Wayne Memorial Park North, Elmwood, Willowdale, and Evergreen cemeteries.
The Memorial Day observances will continue Monday, May 25, with the National Moment of Silence Ceremony at 2:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Veterans Memorial on East Walnut Street in Goldsboro.
Special guests for the ceremony will be James Kazakavage and Christina Kazakavage, parents of TSgt Adam K Ginnet, who was killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom on Jan. 19, 2010.
A wreath-laying ceremony at the Wayne County Courthouse Doughboy Statue will immediately follow the National Moment of Silence observance.
Organizers with the Wayne County Veterans & Patriots Coalition encourage community members to attend the ceremonies and help honor the sacrifices made by Wayne County’s fallen service members.
