GOLDSBORO, NC – Communities Supporting Schools of Wayne County announced it has raised more than $75,000 in support of local students following this year’s “Have a Heart for Kids” fundraiser held earlier this month.
In its May newsletter, Executive Director Selena Bennett thanked sponsors, donors, volunteers, attendees, and community supporters for helping the organization surpass the fundraising milestone.
“Because of the incredible support of our community, we are excited to share that we have now raised just over $75,000 for Communities Supporting Schools of Wayne County,” Bennett wrote.
The fundraiser, held May 7 at the Goldsboro Event Center, marked the nonprofit’s largest annual fundraising event and was moved to a larger venue this year after organizers outgrew previous locations due to increased participation and support.
Funds raised will help the organization continue providing student support services and educational programming across Wayne County. Communities Supporting Schools currently partners with Wayne County Public Schools and serves students in 10 schools throughout the district.
Programs offered by the nonprofit include academic support, volunteer reading buddies, restorative justice initiatives, after-school activities, and summer enrichment opportunities focused on reading, arts, and STEM education.
In her message, Bennett said community support continues to make a meaningful impact on local children.
“Your generosity helps us provide meaningful support, resources, and opportunities that make a lasting impact in the lives of local children every single day,” she wrote.
The organization recently expanded operations with a new downtown Goldsboro office that will allow for additional after-school and summer programming opportunities.
